Hon Tranh, Phu Quy: When to Go and What to Check

A trip to Hon Tranh depends on transport and sea conditions on the day. Do not buy a fixed itinerary based only on attractive photos or a general description. Confirm the operator, departure point, duration and what happens if the trip is postponed.

1. Ask before paying

• The name and contact details of the operator running the trip.
• Departure point, duration, passenger limit and included services.
• Whether the price is per person or per boat, extra charges and refund or change terms.
• Cancellation rules for rough seas, storms or restrictions from local authorities.

Do not transfer money to a personal account based only on an itinerary photo. Keep the booking confirmation, terms and organiser’s contact details.

2. Boat and water safety

Check for life jackets and listen to the skipper’s briefing before departure. Wear a life jacket when instructed, do not move around while the boat is underway and do not exceed the permitted passenger count.

Swimming, snorkelling or wading should take place only when an authorised operator is running the activity, conditions are suitable and proper equipment is provided. Stay with the group, do not swim alone and do not enter the water after drinking alcohol.

3. If conditions change

Ask in advance whether the trip can be moved, refunded or replaced with an island activity. Keep a flexible time slot, but do not go to the pier unless the operator confirms departure. Follow the operator and local authorities’ guidance for marine activities.
