🏝️ Part of the Phu Quy travel guide · Updated 15 October 2026.
Seafood is easier to enjoy when you know whether a dish is priced per item, kilogram or portion, and whether cooking is included. Supply and prices change with fishing conditions, so a price list photographed last season is not enough to set today’s budget.

1. Ask for the unit and total
Before ordering, confirm the unit, approximate weight, cooking method and any extra fees. If you choose live seafood, ask to see the weight before cooking and agree how any remainder is charged. For market-priced dishes, ask for an estimated total before ordering.
Ask again if a menu lists prices per 100 g, per item or per portion. Different units can produce a very different bill.
2. Markets and restaurants
Fish markets follow the timing of boats returning to shore and local working hours; they may not operate like a scheduled tourist attraction. Keep walkways clear, do not handle goods without permission and ask before photographing vendors.
If you buy seafood to be cooked elsewhere, confirm preparation, cooking, packaging fees and waiting time. Keep seafood chilled, especially if you have a long journey ahead.

3. Eat responsibly
Order a suitable amount and ask about the source when a dish is described as seasonal. Do not buy, collect or transport protected marine species. If you have an allergy, tell the restaurant and ask about sauces, oils and side dishes.
Restaurant details and prices are not fixed; check the menu when you arrive. See our Phu Quy overview to budget for food alongside ferry and local transport.

Information note: ferry schedules, weather, prices and opening times can change. Confirm with the provider and at the destination close to your trip. This guide is based on public sources, not an on-site report.
