A 3-day, 2-night trip (typically Friday through Sunday) is the ideal window for a family or group of friends to explore Vietnam's "resort capital" fully. Planning carefully doesn't just spare you the fatigue of poor timing — it also keeps your budget in check and makes sure you don't miss the experiences worth the trip. Below is an itinerary MH Travel has refined from advising thousands of families.

What to Prepare Before You Go

A successful trip starts with good preparation. Aim to sort the following at least two weeks before departure:

• Choose your accommodation: Rather than booking several cramped hotel rooms, the 2026 trend is renting a whole villa at NovaWorld Phan Thiet. With a 3–4 bedroom villa, the whole family gets a spacious shared living area and a private yard large enough for a seafood BBQ. Split per person, the cost is remarkably low (from 500,000–800,000 VND/person/night).
• Getting there: From Ho Chi Minh City, self-driving on the Dau Giay–Phan Thiet expressway (about 2.5 hours) is the best option. Without your own car, book a limousine van with door-to-door service.
• Packing: Mui Ne sees plenty of sun and wind year-round. Bring a good sunscreen, sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, swimwear, and bright outfits for photos on the sand dunes.

DAY 1: Arriving at the Coast & Trying the Local Specialties

Morning: Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet

• 7:00am: Depart Ho Chi Minh City. Enter the Long Thanh–Dau Giay expressway.
• 8:30am: Stop for breakfast and coffee at a rest stop along the expressway.
• 10:00am: Pass the Ba Bau toll station (Binh Thuan) and head into central Phan Thiet.
• 10:30am: Visit the Poshanu Cham Towers on Ba Nai Hill. This thousand-year-old temple complex makes a stunning backdrop for your first family photos.

A note on the province's name: as of July 1, 2025, Binh Thuan merged with Lam Dong and Dak Nong into a single Lam Dong province. Mui Ne – Phan Thiet now falls under Lam Dong; the name "Binh Thuan" is kept in this article since it's the name travelers know this area by.

Midday: Fish Cake Noodle Soup & Villa Check-in

• 12:00pm: Have a light lunch of Phan Thiet fish cake noodle soup or chicken rice. The chewy fish cake and light, sweet broth will wash away the fatigue of the long drive.
• 2:00pm: Head to the Tien Thanh or Mui Ne area to check in. The family can rest, take a nap, or let the kids swim in the resort pool.

Afternoon & Evening: Swimming & a Seafood Feast

• 4:00pm: Swim! The sun has softened and the waves are gentle by now. Mui Ne's gently sloping beach and soft sand are very safe for young kids.

DAY 2: Conquering the "Mini Desert" by Jeep

Morning: A Spectacular Sunrise at Bau Trang

• 4:30am (important): Get up early! Rent an off-road jeep (around 600,000 VND per vehicle, seating 4–6 people) with pickup right at the villa.
• 5:30am: Arrive at Bau Trang (the White Sand Dunes). You'll be amazed watching the sun slowly rise over the sea, tinting the vast dunes red. Rent an off-road ATV here (around 300,000 VND per 20 minutes) to try racing straight down a steep dune. Thrilling and heart-pounding!
• 7:30am: The jeep takes the family along some of Vietnam's most scenic coastal roads, stopping at the Mui Ne Fishing Village. Hundreds of round basket boats anchored at dawn make for the most valuable photo of the trip.
• 8:30am: Explore Fairy Stream — wade barefoot through the cool water flowing between giant marble-red sand formations.

Midday & Afternoon: Local Specialties & NovaWorld Amenities

• 11:00am: Head back to the villa to shower.
• 12:00pm: Lunch with Mui Ne Lau Tha. An elaborate dish, arranged on banana-flower petals, deeply rooted in the coastal community's five-element philosophy.
• 3:00pm: Spend the afternoon exploring the amenities at the NovaWorld resort city (if you're staying there). Kids can play at Circus Land or Wonderland Water Park. Adults can try a round at the exclusive 36-hole PGA golf complex.

Evening: A Relaxed BBQ Night at the Villa

• 6:00pm: The second evening is the perfect time for a garden BBQ party. • 3:30pm: Head back to the expressway toward Ho Chi Minh City. You should be home by around 6:00pm, wrapping up a perfect 3-day, 2-night trip.

The key to making a self-guided trip comfortable is choosing the right place to stay.
